For Mandela Day Croxley sponsored 67 foundation phase learners from Denver Primary School with 67 Croxley branded Repurpose Schoolbags, basic stationery and solar panels. Recipients of the bags live in informal settlements that have no electricity with families constantly having to rebuild their homes due to fires mostly caused by use of flammable substances such as kerosene and candles. With the solar panel charging during the day and transforming into a solar lantern at night, the learners can use them to do their homework under safer conditions. The retro-reflective strips on the bags enhance child pedestrian visibility, for a safe walk to school, especially during the dark winter mornings. In addition to that, the kids don’t have to worry about their books getting wet during rainy days, because the bags are waterproof.

The excitement from the students when they heard that it isn’t just another bag was palpable. A new sense of hope was awakened as they read their Thank You message to Croxley representatives. "Thank you Croxley for your donation. We cannot thank you enough, you truly did a wonderful thing, thank you once more"!

Well done to Croxley for keeping Madibas legacy alive and being a socially responsible corporate citizen. The development potential of such donations can only contribute towards building a better future for the learners, regardless of their circumstances.

As Nelson Mandela once said, “We all know that education, more than anything else, improves our chances of building better lives", and what better way than to start investing in those lives than at an early age.
